Returning with her new album, The Same Side, Lucie is again making waves within the music industry and fans alike. Armed with her new, more mature sound, The Same Side could prove to be one of the few albums that breaks the dreaded "sophmore jinx" that most artists fear; being bigger and better than it's predaccessor. However, things weren't always going so well for the beautiful starlett... Back in the summer of 2000 Lucie put out her very first single through EMI records: the R'n'B flavoured "It's Too Late". Inspite of it's catchy hooks, powerful vocals and sexy video, the single failed to make any significant impact on the UK charts. As a result plans for the follow up single; "Tonight" were scrapped, and what would have been her debut album - the ironically titled Forget Me Not, was cancelled and Lucie was subsequently dropped from the label. Once dropped from the label a disolussioned Lucie began writing songs for other artists, including: Will Young, Rachel Stevens, Gareth Gates and she even penned the Liberty-X smash-hit "Jumpin'". Having spent much time heavily involved in music and the industry - she's previously performed backing vocals for Gary Barlow, as well as recording and performing live with friend, and long-time collaberator Judie Tzuke, Lucie knew that she just wasn't ready to give-up. Following a conversation with a friend, Lucie decided that a few small repairs were needed, and began to write for what would prove to be her breakthrough record... Picked up by Mercury Records, Lucie would then go on to begin writing for what would be her debut album, Breathe In. Then in the autumn of 2004 she released her debut single (on that label) - the smash-hit "What You're Made Of". The song featured a powerful chorus, heartfelt lyrics and soaring vocals. The video that accompanied the song recieved massive airplay on networks such as The Box, MTV Hits and VH1, and with it's continued success on radio the single entered the charts at #7 giving Lucie her first top 10 hit. A few months later she released the pop-flavoured "Breathe In" as her follow-up single. The single repeated the success of her debut, and entered the charts at #5 - making it her biggest hit to date! With the success of her first two singles, it was time to take on the live arena, with the release of her debut album, Breathe In, Lucie embarked on her first ever major solo tour. Performing to audiences accross the UK, Lucie used the tour as a platform to showcase the album material, as well as playing older songs to entertain long-time fans. The tour was a big successand ensured that Lucie became well liked with her fans... she instantly became known as an artist who really had time for, and appreciated the people who had bought her records! After nearly a year of touring, festivals, TV & radio apperances and in-store gigs - it was becoming apparent that Lucie also had a major European following, and so embarked on a tour in Europe. This tour was also a massive success, bringing her music to a whole new audience. The tour also ensured a string of European hit singles. First she re-recorded the song What You're Made Of with Spanish singer Antonio Orozco, which proved to be a wise move... it went to number 1 on the Spanish charts. Later that same year she appeared as a mentor on French TV show Star Accademy, France's answer to Pop Idol. This prompted another re-recording of What You're Made Of with the show's winner, Gregory Lemarchal. This time Lucie performed the song partly in French, and won her many new fans. Repeating the success of the Spanish version of the song, the French version went to number 2 in the French charts. Returning to the studio in the summer of 2006, Lucie began to record for what will be her 2nd record, The Same Side. The first single to be released in the UK is the mid-tempo acoustic number Last Year. With everyone waiting to see how she'll do next, all we can do is breathe in, and wait to take part in what will surely be an intersting 2nd time round the block... |
